Grenoble industrial and scientific network
Grenoble and its surroundings are characterized by much dynamism and attractiveness. With a privileged geographical position, a young, qualified population as well as a network of successful companies, Grenoble, and more generally the department of Isère, is also the first French public research center after Paris Ile de France.
The department of Isère is composed of an important transportation infrastructure: 265 km of highways, over 5,000 km of roads and 418 km of railways.
In regards to air transport, both the airports of Lyon Saint Exupéry and Grenoble-Isère, coupled with the Geneva airport 2 hours away, can offer more than 260 destinations around the world.
Grenoble research is being developed through 13 national and international research centers and incubators like GRAIN and a network of private laboratories: Alstom, Biomerieux, Bull, orange labs, Soitec, STMicroelectronics, Sun Microsystems, Vicat, Xerox etc.
Grenoble also offers competitiveness and various excellence poles: Minalogic Tenerrdis, NanoBio, PILSI, Clinatec, Métis, Pil'es, PIC. In parallel, GIANT is a worldwide innovation campus with three centers of excellence in applied research (Minatec GreEn, Nanobio) and IRT Nanoelectronics.
The Isère industry represents 20% of the regional industry. Many high-tech sectors such as microelectronics, computer science, biotechnology, renewable energy and the logistics sectors work alongside with traditional ones such as metallurgy, food processing and textiles, which are very strong in the department. The industry is one of the department strengths due to these centers of excellence, the major contractors, the innovative PMI and a taste for international business.
